I guard a tender heart
That breaks too easily
A tiny creature warm
And caged for keeping
Safe she gnaws the bars
Down to rust and bending
Pulls at them hard
For freedom then
She chirks and flips
Dances wild for connection
But bites and bleeds
The hand that too quick
Reckless reaches in
