My Creative Writing and Me
My name is April Dean. I am a human, a poet, a survivor, and a meditator. I have only recently been adding my actual name to my poetry. Anonymity once provided a feeling of safety for me as I vulnerably waded into publicly posting my poetry. But recently I heard a quote, “When does a pseudonym become subterfuge?” It was a good and well-timed question. What I write about is fun and whimsical, but also vulnerable, angry, sexual, and taboo. I am interested in being fully human and not being ashamed of my humanity. If that is the case, then I must be completely real…and that means no more anonymity. Other than my name; my credentials, jobs, family life, history need not be spelled out for you yet. If you are interested, you can find out more about who I am by reading my poetry. It feels more like me than any title, or factoid, could reveal anyway.
“I am a human being. Nothing human can be alien to me.” — Terence
Just a quick note to say that all of my creative writing/poetry is authored by me. If I reference or post another writer’s work I will always reference that author. No reference means it came straight out of my head; the good, the bad, and the ugly. Emotional vomit is not always pretty, but I always feel better afterwards.
