In order for my rape to be made real
Must my inner most flesh be damaged on display
Snap
Chat
Laugh
In order for you to have the guts to say it was wrong
Must only my unconscious body be invaded
Silent
Limp
Passive
In order for you to hear my soul scream NOOOOOOOO!
Is your amoral screen the only standard for conviction
Unfeeling
Friend
Unfriend
In order for justice to be served
Is it only in the absence of my actual humanity
Just
Shut
Down
That you allow yourself to feel the ripples in our world
Will you ever believe our voices
Alone
Without
Media
Or is this the only way that any of us matter?

ah, but you have touched this one’s heart a continent away, many times, and we shall never meet socially but have communicated a lot more because of this
Yes, it is truly a double edged sword. I just wish that all we needed to believe assault victims were their voices. Video evidence seems such an extreme, re-victimizing, way to convict a rapist. I am referring to the Vanderbilt convictions in this country. But…you are right…I am glad that we can reach out so easily across the world and find friends, supporters, fellow artists. I still lament that it hasn’t seemed to help assault victims on a global scale. Thank you for reading, commenting, caring.
Deeply touching , thoughtful and tragic poem. Keep writing!
